SPECIAL SESSION DESCRIPTION

The evolution of modern healthcare is increasingly defined by the need to balance clinical excellence with the responsible management of resources. In this context, applied metrology, quality assurance, and the continuous optimization of practices emerge as crucial drivers for sustainable healthcare. This special session highlights how systematic improvements in measurement accuracy, safety, and technology management inherently contribute to overarching operational sustainability without compromising patient care.

We welcome contributions exploring the sustainable optimization of complex medical systems and diverse therapeutic or diagnostic pathways. The scope encompasses a wide array of advanced fields, ranging specifically from the optimization of radiological sciences, comprehensive radiation protection frameworks and radiobiological insights, to the operational management of advanced biomedical technologies, including 3D printing and critical care systems. By examining the deployment of these diverse healthcare technologies, the session explores how robust metrological traceability, rigorous standardization, and advanced methodologies naturally align with the principles of resources optimization and sustainability.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS

Gaetano Gagliardo is a Physicist specializing in Medical Physics, currently completing a residency program at the IRCCS National Cancer Institute "Fondazione G. Pascale" and Emicenter in Naples, Italy. He holds a Master’s Degree in Physics from the University of Naples Federico II and a Postgraduate Master’s Degree in Physical Agents and Radiation Protection from the University of Rome Tor Vergata. His clinical training and primary research interests focus on Radiotherapy and Radiation Protection. His research also extends to environmental radiation safety, where he investigates the impact of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM) and Radon on public health. He has co-authored several peer-reviewed articles published in international scientific journals.

Rocco Mottareale is a Physicist and Researcher at the IRCCS National Cancer Institute "Fondazione G. Pascale" in Naples, Italy. He holds a Master’s Degree in Physics and is currently enrolled in a Postgraduate Degree in Medical Physics at the University of Naples Federico II. His research and clinical activities primarily focus on Radiotherapy and Radiobiology, with a specific interest in the biological effects of ionizing radiation and their applications in oncological treatments. He has co-authored several peer-reviewed articles published in international scientific journals.
